1.3Km Crawler Survey
MMP’s bespoke designed crawler ROV is used to accomplish surveys and inspections along lengths of semi-dry/dry tunnels. Designed and built in-house, the crawler’s is fitted with a front facing pan/tilt camera and a dorsal-mounted 360⁰ 4k inspection camera capable of 200x zoom, allowing for in-depth live analysis of any point in the tunnel. The crawler has a modular design to allow it to be dismantled and deployed through small diameter access hatches and manholes. The crawler is also network enabled to facilitate a range of scanning devices to be mounted and operated on the crawler chassis. Fabricated with a fibre optic tether, the crawler is capable of CCTV surveys traversing between 1km and 4km if conditions allow.
An ROV survey was conducted at Walnut Grove as the tunnel diameter was too small to accommodate a manned entry. The purpose was to survey the East and West Twin 48” tunnel to inspect for damage, deformation, and silt levels. A total distance of 893 metres was traversed and the survey was concluded only due to rising water levels in the tunnel. The crawler tether counter allowed our client to see precise locations where corrosion and water let-by was occurring within the tunnel and our high-resolution 4k camera mount gave our client a live-feed in situ understanding of the tunnels condition for future reference.
The details of our survey report facilitated the needs for the clients AMP7 proposed works, and provided a targeted approach towards the subsequent tunnel clean and valve repair, saving the client both money and time.
